Manufacturing culture of the collectivity (enterprise) is a combination of factors bearing upon the general quality of production and/or quality of provided services, labor productivity, and ultimately business efficiency.
The level of manufacturing culture is dependent upon subjective and objective factors.
Objective factors include:
- Generally accepted attitude of personnel and managers to work – labor discipline, creativity, responsibility, thoughtfulness, punctuality, honesty, care for colleague problems and woes of other departments (level of interaction), personal labor organization
- Generally accepted relationships between the company and other organizations, higher holding structures and public authorities
- Universally established management style
- Education and upbringing
The objective factors are virtually not subject to control
Subjective factors include:
- Production engineering – interaction of units and staffs, decision making mechanisms, distribution of duties and responsibilities
- Recruitment policy of company management
- Efficiency of modern technology application to management and processes permitting planning and supervision of activities of the personnel, managers and units at large, as well as control and assess quality and costs of final products (services)
- Motivation of the personnel, managers and units
Subjective factors lend themselves to alteration given company management will.
Production culture is independent of industry specifics. Production culture concept is applicable to manufacturing, services and civil service.
Production culture level may not be raised in practice only by introduction of new staff motivation arrangements
The level of staff production culture directly influences the following indicators:
- quality of services – efficiency of interaction with other units, external counterparties and customers (clients)
- Labor productivity
- Performance of the unit or enterprise as a whole (enterprise financial performance)
- General efficiency (performance) and enterprise market position
